General Dynamics

General Dynamics Corporation (GD) is an American publicly traded, aerospace and defense corporation headquartered in Reston, Virginia. As of 2019, it was the fifth-largest defense contractor in the United States, and the sixth-largest in the world, by sales.[2] The company is a Fortune 100 company, and was ranked No. 83 in 2020.[3]

Formed in 1954 with the merger of submarine manufacturer Electric Boat and aircraft manufacturer Canadair,[4] the corporation today consists of ten subsidiary companies with operations in 45 countries. The company's products include Gulfstream business jets, Virginia- and Columbia-class nuclear-powered submarines, Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers, M1 Abrams tanks and Stryker armored fighting vehicles.

In 2020, General Dynamics had worldwide sales of $37.9 billion and a workforce of more than 100,000 full-time employees. The current chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) is Phebe Novakovic.

BOTHELL, Wash. – General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), announced today that its Seattle operations received a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level 3 rating by Technical Software Services, Inc., of Pensacola, Fla., a licensed partner of the CMMI Institute.

The company’s Seattle operation specializes in the design, development and production of precision pyrotechnic and inflation systems, low-cost precision munitions and solid-propellant manufacturing. CMMI best practices are incorporated into its system engineering processes throughout the lifecycle of these products.

By employing CMMI best practices, General Dynamics integrates management and engineering activities into its business objectives to ensure its products and services meet customer expectations. Achieving a Capability Level 3 rating demonstrates the company’s commitment to continuous improvement.
